The Role of Eyelash Adhesive: How to choose the right lash adhesive for you

It's a simple fact that we all know that good quality products produce good results. In the eyelash extension industry, the longevity of a set of eyelash extensions depends not only on the quality of the lashes and the artist's technique but also on the appropriate quality of the glue they use. Trust us, the right eyelash glue will save seconds (or even minutes depending on your level of expertise) from your eyelash application process and make things easier for you.

At Lii Lash, we not only provide the best quality eyelash products on the market but also provide some knowledge to help you gain a deeper understanding of the eyelash extension industry. Here is how to choose the right eyelash adhesive to ensure your lashes are of the best quality for your customers.

WHAT ARE THE KEY FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING AN EYELASH EXTENSION ADHESIVE?

1. KEY INGREDIENTS IN HIGH-QUALITY LASH ADHESIVES

Some Ingredients and Characteristics to Look Out For Below

Ingredients

First, we must know about a common ingredient in cheap eyelash glues: formaldehyde. This, ethylhexyl acrylate, and latex are often added to formulas. These are also irritants. However, let's take a closer look at acrylates. It should be noted that acrylate or ethylhexyl acrylate copolymer is widely used in hair and skin care formulations for its binding properties and is (again) perfectly safe at lower concentrations.

Take Lii Lash’s eyelash adhesive. We put our customers’ safety first, it’s 100% vegan, and designed for sensitive skin. It’s formaldehyde-free! Its ingredients include Cyanoacrylate, PMMA (Poly(methyl methacrylate), Carbon Black, and water. That’s it! The first ingredient, which sounds scary, is considered safe to use on the skin – especially in small concentrations.

In essence, cyanoacrylate forms the core of lash adhesive, and bonding extensions, while PMMA enhances retention, and carbon black contributes color. Understanding these components empowers you to make informed choices when selecting lash glue.

Important: ALWAYS do a patch test on a new client to make sure they are not allergic to the glue you use.

The fumes

Why should you consider fumes when choosing a lash glue?

Obviously, no one wants to use a lash glue that smells too strong, it is unpleasant for both you and your client as an extension artist.

For clients with sensitive eyes, fumes can make or break their lash extension experience. Sensitive clients will need a low-smoke eyelash extension adhesive, the special thing is, that all Lii Lash’s eyelash adhesives have the advantage of low smoke.

Viscosity

Viscosity, in simple terms, is how thick or thin your eyelash extension adhesive is. If you are a new lash extension technician, a medium viscosity adhesive can be your best friend because it makes application easier with better control. Some lash glues are thick in the market while some are more watery. Choosing a thin viscosity adhesive is often the top priority of lash extension artists.

Try Lii lash adhesive, all lash adhesives have a thin, water-like viscosity, making them easy to work with and ensuring a comfortable experience for clients.

2. YOUR LASHING SPEED

The speed of your eyelash extensions can be considered the most important factor in choosing your adhesive. Essentially, the adhesive you choose should have a drying time that matches the speed of your lashes.

If you are a beginner to eyelash extensions, chances are you will need more time to fix the eyelash extensions to your natural lashes. If you choose a fast-drying eyelash glue to start with, it may dry before you can properly set the extensions. This will negatively affect the hold of your lashes, as the glue will not have enough time to wrap around the base of your natural lashes before it dries. Remember, a thicker lash will take longer and may require more glue to hold. A thinner lash will not need as much glue, but make sure it dries before releasing.

At Lii Lash, we have options for all levels of experience, with drying times ranging from 0.5 seconds to 1-2 seconds!

3. THE DESIRED EFFECT FOR YOUR CLIENT

Remember that different types of eyelash adhesives provide different finishes.

Another factor to consider when choosing an eyelash adhesive is the color and finish of the adhesive. It is important to understand the difference between black and clear glue. Both have their benefits and you should know which one is right for your client’s needs.

Clients who prefer a natural look may prefer a clear glue when it dries instead of black. Many clients prefer the look of clear glue because it gives a more natural and subtle effect that is still beautiful without being too noticeable.

Clients who like Volume and Mega Volume who like to be dramatic may prefer the finish of a black glue that creates a darker lash line. This glue creates more definition and opacity than clear glue and also allows for quicker and more efficient application.

One of the special ingredients in Lii Lash's eyelash glue is Carbon-Black. Made with carbon and black pigments, it is ideal for darker lashes. These glues tend to give longer-lasting results and hold the extensions better. They also tend to dry faster than other glues, meaning you can finish the job faster and move on to your next appointment.

4. THE ENVIRONMENT YOU'RE LASHING IN

Every lash extension glue will have different humidity and temperature conditions under which it will perform optimally. You must ensure that your lash tech humidity and temperature are monitored closely at all times. If your room conditions do not align with the optimal range of humidity and temperature for your adhesive, the retention of your sets will suffer.

The rule is that glues with a faster drying time perform better under high humidity levels, whereas slower-drying glues prefer relatively low humidity. Most lash adhesives will perform well at a temperature just above normal room temperature.

Humidity and Temperature ranges for Lii Lash's eyelash adhesive:

  • Humidity: Maintain humidity levels below 40% to prevent moisture from affecting the adhesive's performance.
  • Temperature: Store the adhesive within a temperature range of 8-13°C (46-55°F) to ensure its stability.
  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Shield the adhesive from direct sunlight, and ensure it stays dry.
  • Heat Sources: Store the adhesive away from sources of heat, as high temperatures can degrade its quality.

PRO TIPS FOR USING EYELASH ADHESIVE

1. Regular Glue Replacement: Replace the glue drop every 10-15 minutes. This prevents the adhesive from reacting with the humidity in the air, which can cause it to become stringy and reduce its performance.

2. Eye Safety: Ensure the client's eyes are completely closed throughout the application to prevent any potential eye irritation.

3. Optimal Application: When dipping the lash, aim for the middle of the glue droplet, as the adhesive tends to dry from the outer edges.

4. Work Environment: Use the product in a well-ventilated workspace that is shielded from direct sunlight.

5. Minimize Fumes: Consider using under-eye gel patches or medical foam tape to minimize fumes and enhance client comfort.

6. Patch Test: Before using this product, conduct a patch test. Different adhesives may contain varying ingredient percentages, and a patch test helps prevent any unexpected reactions.

7. Read Label Instructions: Familiarize yourself with the detailed instructions provided on the product label before use.

8. Hotter Weather Precaution: In hotter weather or high humidity conditions, it's recommended to dispense the glue onto a shiny surface like the removable backing tape of under-eye gel pads. This limits moisture absorption and prevents premature curing on your jade stone or glue ring.

9. Enhance Retention: To achieve maximum retention, always use a primer and super bonder in conjunction with this waterproof lash adhesive.
